The European Union passenger car market started the new year with a bang, as registrations in January 2023 increased by 11.3% to 760,041 units compared to the previous year. This was attributed largely to an unusually weak base of comparison in 2022 when January saw record-low numbers for passenger car registrations.
One of the most notable trends seen during this period was a 9.5% market share for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This indicates that more and more people are opting for BEV cars over traditional petrol or diesel alternatives due to their environmental benefits and cost savings associated with running them on electricity instead of fuel.
This is further supported by government incentives such as tax breaks and subsidies which make it easier than ever before for individuals and businesses alike to switch from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources like BEVs or hybrids powered by renewable energy sources such as solar power or wind turbines.
Overall, these figures demonstrate how consumer attitudes towards green transportation solutions have shifted significantly over recent years – something which should be celebrated given its positive impact on reducing carbon emissions across Europe’s transport sector going forward into 2021 and beyond!
