Last weekend, skywatchers in Europe were treated to a spectacular sight as a meteor burned up while entering Earth’s atmosphere. Videos of the event have been circulating on social media, showing an intense light streaking across the night sky.
The meteor was first spotted by residents in Germany and Poland who reported seeing bright flashes at around 11:30 pm local time. Witnesses described it as “a huge fireball with a long tail” that lit up the entire area for several seconds before disappearing from view. Experts believe that this was likely part of an asteroid or comet breaking apart due to friction caused by its entry into our planet’s atmosphere, creating beautiful streaks of light in the process.
Astronomers are still studying data collected from this phenomenon and hope to gain more insight into how these objects interact with our planet’s environment when they enter Earth’s orbit. In any case, those lucky enough to witness such an incredible sight will surely remember it for years to come!
