Gaming peripheral manufacturer 8BitDo has announced a new mechanical keyboard and mouse combo inspired by Microsoft’s original Xbox console. The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition and the matching 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse are now available for preorder on Amazon, with shipping set to begin on January 16, 2025.

The keyboard, priced at $119.99, features a transparent green design that pays homage to the iconic look of the first Xbox console. It marks 8BitDo’s first foray into RGB backlighting, offering eight lighting modes including animated waves and individual key illumination.

With a tenkeyless layout, the Retro 87 boasts 87 keys, including a full function row and Windows key. A standout feature is the Xbox logo button, which serves as a shortcut to the Windows Game Bar. The keyboard utilizes Kailh Jellyfish X switches and double-layered ABS keycaps with a matte UV coating for enhanced durability and typing experience.

Connectivity options are versatile, with Bluetooth, 2.4GHz dongle, and USB-C cable support. The built-in 2,000mAh battery provides up to 200 hours of use on a single charge.

Complementing the keyboard is the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse, also featuring a transparent green shell. The mouse includes four programmable side buttons adorned with the Xbox controller’s color scheme. It utilizes a PAW 3395 optical sensor with adjustable sensitivity ranging from 50 to 26,000 DPI.

The Retro R8 Mouse incorporates Kailh Sword GM X Micro Switches, rated for up to 100 million clicks. Its 450mAh rechargeable battery offers up to 100 hours of use via Bluetooth, with battery life varying when using the 2.4GHz connection.

Both devices are compatible with 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2, allowing for extensive customization and macro creation. The mouse comes with a charging dock that doubles as a signal extender for improved connectivity.
