After an extensive journey across all 50 US states, one seasoned traveler has compiled a list of major cities they don’t plan to revisit. The traveler, who prefers remote, outdoor-recreation-focused destinations, has shared their insights on six urban centers that failed to leave a lasting positive impression.
Portland, Oregon, despite being situated in a state renowned for its natural beauty, didn’t captivate the traveler. While Oregon’s waterfalls, coastlines, and lush greenery were highly praised, Portland itself was described as unremarkable. The traveler expressed a preference for Seattle’s more vibrant atmosphere over Portland’s urban landscape.
Las Vegas, Nevada, was deemed too crowded and commercialized for the traveler’s taste. Instead, they recommended exploring nearby natural attractions such as Red Rock Canyon, Valley Of Fire State Park, and Death Valley National Park for a more authentic Nevada experience.
Miami, Florida, left the traveler feeling overwhelmed by its crowds and perceived superficiality. Other parts of Florida, including the Florida Keys, Jacksonville, the Everglades, and smaller Gulf Coast towns, were highlighted as more enjoyable alternatives.
Boston, Massachusetts, despite multiple visits, failed to create memorable experiences for the traveler. The city was described as more of a transit point for East Coast travel rather than a destination in its own right.
Los Angeles, California, while acknowledged for its cultural and culinary offerings, was criticized for its congestion and overwhelming urban sprawl. The traveler suggested that while LA might be worth a visit or two, nearby areas like Malibu, Topanga Canyon, Santa Barbara, or San Diego offer better access to nature and less traffic.
Lastly, Phoenix, Arizona, although recognized for its blend of urban amenities and natural beauty, didn’t make the cut for future visits. The traveler expressed a preference for nearby locations such as Scottsdale, Mesa, Sedona, or Flagstaff, citing their more serene environments and superior access to nature.
